Somers Historical Society,
founded in 1956 ieducates, collects, maintains and preserves material related to both local history and to the development of early 19th century American circus.  Its offices and exhibition rooms are located on the Third Floor of the Elephant Hotel, a National Historic Landmark.  Somers Historical Society shares the services of a professional curator with the Town of Somers and annually presents a series of educational programs for its members, local community, schools and organizations.  It also maintains historical exhibits on the third floor of the Elephant Hotel, a National Historic Landmark and interprets three town-owned historic properties –

  •  The Wright Reis Homestead
  •  Mt. Zion Church
  •  Tomahawk Chapel  
Hours are Thursdays 2pm – 4pm and during special events in the National Register District (aka Somers Hamlet) and by appointment.

Somers Rotary meets at 6:30pm every Tuesday evening at the Pinnacle restaurant in Heritage Hills. Projects are International, regional, and local in scope, including funding construction of a water treatment facility in Tamara, Honduras;  On My Mind, a nationally-recognized literacy project that publishes the writings of students in high schools locally and throughout the U.S.; and a multitude of local initiatives that provide relief to people in need in our own community. The Somers Library provides the community with audio materials, DVDs, and videos, books, magazines, newspapers, and an inter-library loan service.  Special collections include the following: local history, holocaust, parenting, circus, and caregiver.  Somers Library provides a wide variety of childrens, teens, and adult programs; something for every age group.

The library offers Internet- connected pcs, WiFi access, a photocopier, and materials to home-bound patrons.  The town offers a shuttle bus for seniors in Somers to and from the Library.  The Library has a community meeting room for non-profit program use, and a monthly art exhibit.
